Bologna’s director of football Marco Di Vaio has revealed the true reason Marko Arnautovic didn’t swap the Italian club for Manchester United in the summer. As we all know, the Red Devils are still under construction with Erik ten Hag still looking for the best players that suit his ball possession style.

Marko Arnautovic may have been one of Bologna's key players last season, but the Austrian forward was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer. In the end, ten Hag settle for a big gamble signing: the Ajax Brazilian forward, Antony. Of course, he isn't an unknown to the manager, but his price was completely excessive.

90 million euros was what Manchester United decided to pay for this new striker. On the other hand, it appears that Arnautovic has made an excellent start to the new season, scoring six goals and one assist in eight appearances. If he continues this form, maybe he can change Bologna for a bigger club.

Bologna's sporting director explains why he didn't come to Man. Utd.

At the end of the day, Manchester United pull the plug on the deal. But Bologna's sporting director, Marco Di Vaio, says otherwise. “United didn’t retire from the race because of their fans, but only because Arnautovic understood how important he was for Bologna’s project" Bologna’s director of football Marco Di Vaio said in an interview. Those may have been some harsh words, but in the end, the board was right. With Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho getting fit again, the Manchester United attack is in good hands.
