As Manchester United prepares for their first game of the Premier League season when they take on Brighton & Hove Albion at home, a lot of the players have been doing a lot of media work. This time it was the team’s captain Harry Maguire who spoke to Sky Sports as he was asked about Cristiano Ronaldo, but he only had good things to say about him.

The 29-year-old centre-back said that he knows the feeling of being the main target of criticism by fans and media: “Cristiano is a magnificent player and magnificent character to have around us. I know what it is like to have a lot of media speculation around me, but he takes the majority of it”.

However, the former Leicester City player seems to understand that all of those demands and criticism are to be expected when you put on the Manchester United jersey, and even more in his case, the captain’s armband: “Everything he does is obviously scrutinised to a degree. I think this is what you get when you play for this club, due to the size of the club”.
