While Carroll got a red card for his action, Christian Eriksen was forced off the pitch in pain with United fans watching on helplessly as Erik Ten Hag's excited face turned gloomy following the incidents. Eriksen was seen walking out of Old Trafford with crutches at the end of the game.
The injury to Eriksen deals a huge blow to Ten Hag's favorite midfield partnership of Casemiro and Eriksen which has been vital to his team's success. This was United's second serious injury in the midfield and has now forced them to try and make a last-minute signing to give them enough options in the coming months.
According to the latest reports, Manchester United are already in contact with Bayern Munich to sign Marcel Sabitzer on loan to salvage their situation. The Austrian midfielder has found game time limited with the Bavarian giants this season and could consider a move to Manchester. Chelsea is also reportedly interested in him too.
