When could Antony make his debut with Manchester United?

Manchester United finally announced the transfer of Antony Matheus dos Santos after Ajax accepted a €95 million plus €5m in add-ons. This makes the Brazilian player the second most expensive transfer in the club’s history, right below Paul Pogba’s signing from Juventus back in 2016 for €105m.

However, it was reported by several media outlets, that the 22-year-old winger won’t be available for Erik ten Hag to choose from for this Thursday’s fixture away at Leicester City because his Visa still needs to be sorted out. The same thing happened with his compatriot Casemiro, who couldn’t play against Liverpool for the same reason.

Antony is expected to make his Manchester United debut until Sunday when the Red Devils face the Premier League leaders Arsenal, who are looking very strong at the moment being the only team that has won all of their first four games of the season. The former Ajax and Sao Paulo player still needs to train with his new teammates.

Let’s remember that Antony hasn’t had a regular training session for two weeks. Right after Ajax turned down an €80m bid from United last week, he refused to train with his team, which also caused him to not be included in Ajax’s last two games in the Eredivisie. Besides his Visa, the Brazilian has to prioritize regaining match fitness this week.

Throughout his career, Antony Matheus dos Santos has worn numbers like 7, 11, and 39. However, the only first-team numbers available at United at the moment are 3, 13, 15, 21, 24, and 26. It remains uncertain if Mason Greenwood’s 11 is available after was separated from the squad following his accusations of domestic violence.
