Manchester United have announced the three candidates to win the club’s Player of the Month for August. After a tough start of the month with the defeats against Brighton and Brentford, the team has fought back with two wins in a row, one of them being against our biggest rivals Liverpool. For their recent performance, here are the nominees.

Tyrell Malacia. Manchester United’s first signing of the summer had a good pre-season, but for whatever reason, he didn’t start in the first two games of the campaign but made his competitive debut with the team in the second half against Brentford. The left-back started against Liverpool where he did a great job in stopping Mohamed Salah until his goal. Rio Ferdinand even compared him to Patrice Evra after that performance.

Raphaël Varane. The French defender also didn’t start in the first games and also made his first appearance in the second half against the Bees. The 29-year-old centre-back is completely fit and has become one of the best players in the last couple of matches where he has looked better than ever alongside Lisandro Martinez in the middle of the defense.

Lisandro Martinez. Arguably, the favorite to win this award. The 24-year-old centre-back was brought from Ajax since Erik ten Hag wanted him at all costs. He has started in all four games of the season, and despite struggling a little bit in the first two matches, the Argentinian has been named Man Of The Match in the last two games where the team has won.

Big changes

August didn’t start as everyone would have liked with the first two terrible performances that had the team at the bottom of the Premier League table until a week and a half ago. But, after Erik ten Hag decided to give players like Raphael Varane and Tyrell Malacia a chance, the team has been looking more solid and aggressive. Hopefully, they can keep the momentum rolling.
