This morning, the news coming out from Carrington is that Anthony Martial suffered a hamstring injury during today’s training session. However, journalist Laurie Whitwell, from ‘The Athletic’ says that this is a minor injury and the player should not be out of action for a long period of time; but he might not make it for Sunday’s game.
Whitwell also noted that Martial is only expected to miss out the first game of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion. There is hope that he might return for match day two of the Premier League when United travel to Brentford. If he is not fully recovered by then, his first game may be against Liverpool on August 22nd.
Erik Ten Hag is furious with Cristiano Ronaldo for this reason
This left-back is on his way out of Manchester United this summer
This situation will definitely give Erik ten Hag a headache, as the only other centre-forward as his disposal at the moment is Cristiano Ronaldo. Although, who would not want Ronaldo as a starter? The problem with him is that he missed out on a big part of the pre-season tour and still has to get used to the manager’s system.
Another alternative ten Hag has, is playing Marcus Rashford in the middle of the attack as he is not unfamiliar with that position. But for that, we have to go back to Rashford’s first games with the United shirt when he was only a teenager. He was called up to the senior team because all strikers were injured at that time. The left-winger performed really well as a ‘number 9’ and scored lots of goals that year.
Manchester United’s opening game of the Premier League is just three days away, and this injury affects ten Hag’s plans ahead of the match as the Frenchman was being considered to be a starter. However, there is still a possibility that Anthony Martial could play this Sunday as he is only considered to be in doubt.
