Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag has reportedly asked for the club to sell some “dead wood” as he is looking to shorten up his squad. He believes there are too many players in the club that are not good enough and wants to bring some new footballers that are worthy of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world like Manchester United.

Some of these players are youngsters who still need more experience, like Ethan Laird, James Garner, and Facundo Pellistri. This last one, will definitely stay at the club this summer because he suffered an ankle injury this week and will be out of action for about two months. The transfer market will close in exactly three weeks and he will not be recovered by then.

As a consequence of not being fit for the next two months, all clubs interested in him have backed down because he can’t pass any of the medical tests. The journalist Jonathan Shrager claims that before his injury there were several teams from Portugal, Italy, and Denmark that had advanced talks with United for the loan of Pellistri.

A new alternative for the team

Now that the Uruguayan will be part of the team, maybe Erik ten Hag could consider him as a squad rotation player. The 20-year-old right-forward has not played too much with the Red Devils shirt since his arrival to Old Trafford in 2020 but has been loaned out the last year and a half at Deportivo Alaves, where he has played in the Spanish LaLiga against teams like FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
