Manchester United have just announced their starting eleven that will face Brentford in the second match of the Premier League season. After losing his first game in charge last week at Old Trafford against Brighton & Hove Albion, Erik ten Hag has adjusted some things in his squad in order to obtain his first three points.

Here is the official lineup for today’s fixture: David De Gea, Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martínez, Luke Shaw, Fred, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese star is fully fit and will play from the beginning of the game. We’ll see if he can play the full 90 minutes.

It is basically the same team sheet that lost against Brighton. The only difference is Scott McTominay getting dropped by Cristiano Ronaldo. It will be interesting to see if United play with a 4-3-3 formation with Eriksen, Fred, and Bruno in midfield; or Fred alongside Eriksen with Fernandes in front of them to connect the midfield with the attack.

McTominay had a terrible performance last weekend as he was probably the worst player on the field. Fred will take full responsibility for recovering the ball from the opposition. On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo was really needed as the team didn’t have a “No. 9” reference on the attack against Brighton when Eriksen played as a “false 9”.

The rival’s starting eleven

Here’s how Brentford will come out to the pitch with this lineup: David Raya, Aaron Hickey, Ben Mee, Pontus Jansson, Rico Henry, Christian Norgaard, Mathias Jensen, Mads Roerslev, Josh Da Silva, Ivan Toney, and Bryan Mbeumo. The Red Devils should be really careful with Toney on top as he scored a goal in his last match.
