After a terrible start to the season, things are starting to change at Manchester United. This past week, there were multiple reports all around England saying that the club’s owners were planning to make a big increase in the transfer budget available for Erik ten Hag to spend on some new players in the final weeks of the summer.

This has proven to be true after Manchester United paid £70 million plus £10m in add-ons for the transfer of Casemiro from Real Madrid last week. Then it was reported by David Ornstein from The Athletic that the club made an €80 million bid to Ajax for Antony, which was rejected. Now, the English giants are preparing to send a new and increased offer in the next couple of days for the Brazilian winger.

After Casemiro’s arrival, a lot of fans would have expected that Frenkie De Jong would be completely ruled out after spending so much money on another midfielder. However, 90min Football and Dharmesh Sheth from Sky Sports, have reported that United will do everything in their power to get enough resources to sign the midfielder this summer.

The club remains optimistic about being able to sign the 25-year-old footballer because FC Barcelona are still struggling with money and are looking to let go of a couple of players so they can register some of their new signings. Barca and United had an agreement back in July for the transfer, but the player refused to join Old Trafford.

Time to move on

Although everyone knows by this point that Erik ten Hag is obsessed to reunite with his former Ajax player, he and the club should have drawn a line right after he rejected Manchester United. This club is bigger than any player and they should look for other options available in the market.
