Erik ten Hag and Harry Maguire have both come out today and publicly defend Cristiano and saying they count on him for the season. Also today, former Manchester United player Gary Neville let his anger know in Sky Sports: I’m a little bit disappointed in him. Would it be too much to ask him to come out to do an interview to clear things up and tell us what has thinking and what’s actually happening”.

The Sky Sports pundit and his colleague Jamie Carragher have both said this summer that they United should let him go. Neville finished off adding: “This is messy for him, the club, everybody. We want him to stay, we’re desperate for him to stay, we just don’t like these sagas that drag on; they always look a little distasteful. I think it needs clarifying”.

Former Manchester United and England defender, Rio Ferdinand, took the opportunity to give his opinion on the subject during his promotion for ‘William Hill’, where he said: “People are saying you’ve got to let Ronaldo go. Well, get someone in who can score 24-25 goals first”. He added that there is no other world-class striker available after Núñez, Haaland and Lewandowski have found new clubs this summer.
