After Manchester United lost today against Brighton & Hove Albion in the first game of the season, a lot of fans and former players have shown and expressed their concern about the team’s performance in Erik ten Hag’s debut as the ‘Red Devils’ new coach. Certainly, this defeat exposed some of the squad’s biggest problems.
Paul Scholes was asked about the game and he admitted that the midfield really is a problem: “McTominay was always trying to run with the ball, ridiculous. The quality in the middle of the pitch was really poor. I was happy he did not get sent off, but I think he was slightly lucky. Pass it to you best players". It's not that difficult”.

The former Manchester United player and captain knows exactly what the middle of the field needs as he is considered by many as one of the best midfielders in English football history. It is not the first time he has shown his concern for the clubs situation.
When Erik ten Hag was appointed as manager back in April, he immediately named Frenkie De Jong as the top priority for Manchester United transfer window. He already knows the player from their time at Ajax together and thinks he would help the team in that area of the field.
