Manchester United have announced that Lisandro Martinez has been voted as the club’s Player Of The Month for August. This is the first time a new signing has won this award in his first month with the team since Daniel James did it in August of 2021 after signing from Swansea City. Erik ten Hag brought Lisandro with him from Ajax this summer, and he is already proving him right.

The Argentinian defender defeated his teammates Raphaël Varane and Tyrell Malacia after getting 84 percent of the votes, which is a record number on a Player Of The Month poll in the club. Although they also had a great month, Malacia received 10% of the vote in second place, while Varane got 6% of the total votes to end up in third place.

Lisandro Martinez has started his Manchester United career with a bang. After signing with the club by the end of July, it has only taken him a month to establish himself as one of the fan favorites in Old Trafford. The 24-year-old has started in all the first four fixtures of the Premier League season, being named Man Of The Match in the last two games, which ended up in victories.

The former Ajax centre-back struggled in his first two games as he was paired with Harry Maguire in the middle of the defense. However, when Erik ten Hag played him alongside Raphaël Varane, everything changed. The Argentinian and the Frenchman clicked immediately and have become the starter ahead of the team’s captain Maguire, who has been relegated to the bench.

Great signing

“The Butcher”, as Manchester United fans have started to call him, has proven his haters wrong after they thought he would struggle in the Premier League because of him being 1.75 in height, which is considered short for a centre-half. Despite his height, Lisandro has won 83% of his aerial duels this season, which is more than other tall defenders like Koulibaly and Ruben Dias.
