Ahead of this Monday’s fixture between Manchester United and Liverpool on match day three of the Premier League, Jürgen Klopp held a routine press conference days before the game and talked about the possibility of the match getting suspended because of the Red Devils fans who are going to make a protest outside Old Trafford before the match.

When asked about what he and his team will do if the match ends up being suspended by the Premier League, he joked at first, but then he said that they should be awarded the win: “Plans for the game not happening? Yes, going home on the bus. I really hope it will not happen but if it does happen I think we get the three points”.

The Liverpool manager claimed that it is not possible to reschedule the game in an extraordinary season which will have a lot of fixtures every two or three days: “We have nothing to do with the situation and if the supporters want the game not happening, then we cannot just rearrange the game again and fit it in somewhere in an incredible season”.

The 55-year-old German coach believes it is not fair for a team that has prepared for a match to just leave without competing: “People tell us we are fine, we go there and play the game hopefully and go home. But in a situation like this, always the other team should get the points because they have nothing to do with it and they have prepared for it”.

This has already happened

Back in May 2021, the match between Manchester United and Liverpool had to be rearranged after some Red Devils fans broke into Old Trafford before the kick-off while protesting against their owners. The supporters targeted this match because it is the biggest fixture of the year in England and everyone watches it. This year, they are planning to do it again.
