When Manchester United announced the signing of Lisandro Martinez back in July, a lot of media pundits started making fun of his height since they believed he wasn’t tall enough to be a centre-back in the Premier League, which is a very physical league. However, he has proven them wrong with his recent performances.

Erik ten Hag had been working with him at Ajax and wanted him to join him in his new adventure in the biggest club in the world. The new manager knew his height wouldn’t be a problem and didn’t care what the media were saying. Now, Lisandro has established himself as one of the best defenders in English football with his 1.75m of height.

The 24-year-old has become a vital part of the team’s defense alongside Raphael Varane as they have both benched the captain Harry Maguire due to their good form. With them as the centre-back partnership, the Red Devils have won four games in a row and are only three points away from the top of the table.

Not only that but “The Butcher”, as Manchester United fans have started to call him, was voted the club’s Player of the Month of August in his first month as part of the biggest club in the world. He is proven his haters wrong and he will continue to show his passion and quality in the middle of the defense.

He can’t stop whining

One of his biggest haters is Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, who used to play as a centre-back. He keeps saying that despite his good performances he still wouldn’t like someone with his height in defense. He is struggling to find reasonable arguments against Lisandro Martinez but keeps mentioning his height, which the Argentinian has proven it is not a problem.
