Luke Shaw has been Manchester United’s first-choice left-back for almost a decade as he was considered by the dressing room untouchable. However, that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t been performing amazingly on the pitch, actually, quite the opposite as he isn’t the same guy the club signed years ago.

Manchester United signed Luke Shaw from Southampton when he was only a teenager. At such a shortage, he has become one of the best and most promising full-backs in English football. Unfortunately for him and the club, he suffered a big injury in his first year as he broke his leg and was never the same again.

Despite never playing like he used to do with the Saints at the beginning of his career, he was still always a regular starter with the Red Devils as there was no one else who could compete with him for a place in the starting XI. Some left-backs were signed but they ended up being worse than him.

That was until Tyrell Malacia was signed this summer transfer window after Erik ten Hag liked him from watching him play in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord. The new manager has been so impressed with him, that Luke Shaw hasn’t played in the last four games, something that had never happened before.

Malacia’s words to Shaw

The 23-year-old Dutchman said recently to Manchester United's media that he loves the idea of facing competition every week for a place on the team. Malacia feels this is a way both he and Shaw could get better as they will both try their best to be selected by the manager. Let’s see if the English left-back will take it or ask to leave in the next transfer window.
