It seems that this day cannot get any worse as the hours go by. After suffering a home defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford in the first game of the season, which also was Erik ten Hag’s first game in charge of the team, FC Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta has opened the door to the possibility of Frenkie de Jong staying with them.

Before their match today against Liga MX side, Pumas UNAM, Joan Laporta spoke to their fans as he addressed the De Jong situation: “Frenkie is our player and we want him to stay at Barcelona, he wants to stay too. With him and his teammates, we want to have a very powerful midfield. He has offers, but we want him to stay”.

Let’s remember that Barcelona still needs to sell players in order to register their new transfers because of their financial situation. The Dutch midfielder seem to be the perfect player to sell because of his high value on the market. However, after Manchester United reached an agreement with Barça for the player, he has not decided to leave because they owe him some differed wages.

The ‘Red Devils’ are desperate for him

Erik ten Hag’s main target since his first day at Manchester United has been Frenkie De Jong, who he knows really well by their time together at Ajax. In spite of this, the season has already begun and neither the 25-year-old nor another midfielder has been signed. Today everyone saw the troubles McTominay and Fred had against Brighton, and ten Hag is desperate for a centre-midfielder.
