Manchester United started their new Premier League season with a defeat at Old Trafford against Brighton & Hove Albion. The visitors ruined Erik ten Hag’s first official game in charge of his new club with a 1-2 victory which is their first ever win at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.
‘The Red Devils’ came out to the pitch with the following line-up: David De Gea, Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martínez, Luke Shaw, Fred, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho, Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford. The new manager decided to bench Cristiano Ronaldo and play Eriksen as a ‘false 9’.

Wayne Rooney says Manchester United is bigger than any player
After being 0-2 down in the scoreboard, ten Hag brought Ronaldo in and made a few changes. An own goal by Mac Allister gave the Manchester United fans a glimpse of hope. However, it was not enough to avoid a defeat in the first game of the season. It is still early to judge the former Ajax player, but it is obvious that the team still needs more time to display the football he wants.
Erik ten Hag and the team have no time to be sorry as they must learn from the mistakes made today as quickly as possible and fully focus on next week's match when they travel to Brentford. In addition, the club’s board must bring in some new signings after today’s performance.
