Ever since Erik ten Hag was appointed as Manchester United manager back in April, the club has only made four signings. After the early arrivals of Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia, and Lisandro Martínez, the board slowed down in their transfer strategy as they were waiting for Frenkie De Jong to change his mind and decide to join them.

That didn’t happen and the Red Devils had to start looking for new players in a desperate fashion. The club agreed to a €20 million fee with Juventus for the transfer of Adrien Rabiot who looked like the first alternative to De Jong, however, the French midfielder didn’t end up arriving because of his high demands regarding his wages.

Then, Manchester United approached Casemiro and his agent as a third alternative. This time, the board moved quickly and completed the deal in just about three days. After signing the 30-year-old Brazilian defensive midfielder, the Dutch manager wants to move on and reinforce other positions on the football field.

Several players have been linked with a move to Old Trafford this past couple of weeks after a shaky start of the season for United and Erik ten Hag. Ahead of the next fixture against Liverpool on Monday, Erik ten Hag talked to Manchester United media where he was asked about the characteristics he looks for in his players.

He wants hunger for victory

“It starts with the basic stuff. You have to be reliable, have the drive, have the motivation, and be highly motivated. You should want to fight, you should bring it every day on the training pitch. You want to strengthen the squad. You are part of a unified club, a unified team, and, most of all, you are prepared to win”.
