Manchester United currently have an overload of centre-defenders with the likes of the club’s captain Harry Maguire, Raphaël Varane, Lisandro Martínez, Victor Lindelöf, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones. That’s six centre-backs for an area of the field where only two can play, so the club is already looking for departures.
Out of these players, Eric Bailly is the one who has most clubs interested in him. Nevertheless, every single team that has approached the Red Devils is only looking for a loan deal. But today Simon Jones, from ‘Mail Sport’ reported that United is considering some new bid from Ligue 1 sides Olympique Marseille and AS Monaco.

It is yet to be known if these two teams are just looking for a simple loan, or if they could consider making a bid for the permanent signing of the Ivory Coast centre-back. But Manchester United is urged to get rid of defenders and might add a cheap option to buy after the loan is finished. New information will come out in the next couple of days.
On the other hand, AS Roma was interested in Lindelöf, but as the Sweden defender is out with an injury, they have backed away. Another player that received an offer is Phil Jones. It was reported that his former teammate for both club and country, Wayne Rooney, wants him to join his team DC United at the MLS. However, Jones is still waiting for other options closer to his home.
Coming out of pre-season and after watching last Sunday’s match against Brighton, it looks like ten Hag has three defenders who are untouchable for his project and could have a healthy competition to be the starters. Maguire, Varane and the newcomer Martínez will be playing at Old Trafford this season. It also seems that Lindelöf will be staying as the fourth option.
