Manchester United loaned out Dean Henderson to the newly promoted Nottingham Forest this summer as he wasn’t guaranteed to be the team’s number one goalkeeper ahead of David De Gea. The 25-year-old wanted to play regularly this season and try to make it to the England squad for the FIFA World Cup in November.
Today, Henderson had an amazing performance and helped Nottingham Forest get their first Premier League victory in 23 years. He made four saves, three of them were shot inside the box, and stopped a penalty shot from Declan Rice. All this just one day after David De Gea’s terrible performance from yesterday with two mistakes that let to Brentford's first two goals.
Erik ten Hag is so angry that he canceled the players’ day off
Ruud van Nistelrooy gives an update on his player Cody Gakpo
The former Man United academy player might never come back to Old Trafford after he shared his anger with the club in a recent interview with ‘talkSPORT’: “I turned so many good loans down last summer, and they wouldn’t let me go. It was frustrating. To sit there and waste 12 months is criminal really, at my age, I was fuming”.
He claimed that the manager back then Ole Gunnar Solskjær and people at the club had told him that he would be the team’s first choice goalkeeper: “The conversation I had, coming out of the Euro squad, was that you’re coming back here to be the number one goalkeeper. I got Covid, unfortunately, no one followed through with anything they told me”.
It was reported in recent days that Manchester United and Erik ten Hag are already looking for a new goalkeeper who can provide competition to David De Gea in goal. ‘Deano’ might not come back after his recent interview, so the club will be signing someone this summer. At the moment, Southampton’s Alex McCarthy is the only name that has been mentioned.
