A few days ago it was reported by the Spanish news portal Marca, that Manchester United had shown interest in re-signing Memphis Depay from FC Barcelona this summer after some of their main transfer objectives got complicated. Today one of Barca’s closest sources Gerard Moreno reported that the Catalunya club is asking for €10m to sell the player.
However, the transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano just reported on his Twitter account that there are no negotiations ongoing between Memphis Depay and Manchester United nor Real Sociedad, which are the two clubs that have him on their shortlist as possible candidates to approach in the final week of the transfer window.

The Italian reporter highlighted that the English giants’ priority is still the signing of Antony Matheus even after Ajax turned down their latest bid of €90 million for the 22-year-old Brazilian. Nevertheless, after Antony’s exclusive interview with Fabrizio Romano last night, where the player begged his club to let him go to Old Trafford, the Red Devils feel confident that an agreement is imminent.
Despite all this, after Erik ten Hag confirmed that Anthony Martial suffered a new injury right after returning from one, and with Cristiano Ronaldo’s future in the air, Manchester United is really considering making a move for Memphis Depay, who would only cost €10m and can play as a centre-forward, or down the left-wing.
If Cristiano Ronaldo ends up leaving this summer, then maybe Memphis Depay could make a return to the Theatre of Dreams and wear the iconic “number 7” on the back of his jersey once again now that he is more mature. When he was first signed back in 2015 from PSV Eindhoven for €34m, he was just a young kid that couldn’t handle the pressure and flopped at the club.
