As we have already seen this summer after the signings of Tyrel Malacia, Christian Eriksen, and Lisandro Martínez, the new Manchester United manager really likes players that have experience in the Eredivisie and players he has already coached because they all know and follow his football philosophy inspired in Johan Cruyff.

This being said, there are two signings that have resisted Erik ten Hag this transfer window: Frenkie De Jong and Antony. He has already coached both players and he helped them develop into world-class footballers that are desired by every big club across Europe. Sadly, the club hasn’t been able to bring them to Old Trafford.

Today, Antony had an amazing performance in the Eredivisie helping Ajax win 6-1 against Groningen with two goals scored. When he was doing a post-match interview, the interviewer told him that they were afraid that Erik ten Hag will call him in the next few days in order to sign him for Manchester United.

The Brazilian laughed and said all he thinks about is Ajax, but didn’t close the door to his former manager: “No Idea. he has to discuss this with my agents, I'm focused on here. What will come, will come, we will see. At the moment, I feel good at Ajax. I give everything for this club, every minute, so I am loving this city and this club”.

The impossible transfer

Even though the Dutch manager has told the Manchester United board to make an effort to sign Antony, the fact that Ajax set up a £70 million price tag for him, made the club rule out the possibility of signing him. The Red Devils will make a move for PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo after his Champions League fate is decided.
