Right after Manchester United lose their first game of the UEFA Europa League season against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford, it was confirmed that the manager of the Red Devils would not talk to the press. This was surprising because the opponent’s manager Imanol Alguacil did speak after the final whistle.

Erik ten Hag was obviously angry at his players following tonight’s performance, which was the worst since that 4-0 defeat against Brentford a month ago. After that match, the Dutch coach made the whole squad run right under the sun for a lot of time in order to teach them a lesson.

This has been confirmed by the players, but they also have admitted that after that punishment, they learned the hard way that those kinds of performances were unacceptable while wearing a Manchester United shirt. The next four games after that were all won by the Red Devils who showed a completely different face.

However, today they once again performed really badly at the start of their European journey. It seems the team likes to have a slow start and then adjust on the road and get the results. This obviously has the manager very angry and he will try to adjust some things in training.

Why did he not attend the press conference?

The reason Erik ten Hag didn’t talk to the press following the result is because of the recent passing of Queen Elizabeth II hours before the game. This is a sign of respect from the manager to the Queen, The Royal Family, and the English people.
