As the FIFA World Cup is just around the corner, all managers from their national team are hoping that all their footballers are playing well in order to be completely fit for the biggest tournament in football. That is why they usually visit the players who aren’t playing regularly and warns them about the possibility of missing out.
That is the case with Manchester United’s defender Harry Maguire. The most expensive defender in history hasn’t been playing under Erik ten Hag’s management since the 4-0 defeat against Brentford as he was part of the problem on the team. The new Red Devils’ manager has preferred the partnership of Lisandro Martinez and Raphaël Varane.

For that reason, England manager Gareth Southgate has told the 29-year-old centre-back that he doesn’t have to worry about his future with the national team as he is one of his favorite players on the team and still considers him a crucial part of the squad going to the World Cup in November.
Despite not counting for Erik ten Hag recently, the English teams still rate Harry Maguire as Chelsea was really interested in signing him this summer transfer window after looking that he wasn't playing too much. However, the Dutch manager asked the club not to sell him as he was still part of his plans for the season.
It’s not like Erik ten Hag wants to get rid of him forever. It's just that he is sending a message to everyone in the dressing room that no one has his place in the starting XI guaranteed. As well as Harry Maguire, other superstars of the team like Cristiano Ronaldo and Luke Shaw have also been dropped to the bench in recent games.
