According to The Daily Star, Anthony Martial is set to be handed a brand new contract extension by Manchester United since Erik ten Hag has told the club that the French forward features in his future plans. His current contract expires in June of 2024, and he still has two more years left in the contract, so they should start thinking about what to do with him.

This news might come as surprising to some supporters after Martial has only played 45 minutes in the first four fixtures this season. But in that second half that he played against Liverpool was fantastic. He looked really comfortable on the pitch and even made an assist in Marcus Rashford’s goal, which gave the Red Devils the win.

Before the injuries started to happen, let’s remember that the 26-year-old was the best Manchester United player coming out of pre-season. While Cristiano Ronaldo was absent from the tour trying to find a new club, Martial worked hard and really impressed Erik ten Hag, who thinks he could be the team’s main striker.

Unfortunately, just when it looked like this was going to be his season of redemption, he suffered a hamstring injury just days before the opening Premier League game against Brighton, which forced the manager to change his system. He finally returned last Monday and played really well, but he got injured again in his Achilles and missed yesterday’s match.

Let’s take it easy

Maybe Erik ten Hg should wait a little longer before convincing the club’s board to offer him a new deal. Just six months ago, before the Dutch manager arrived, he was loaned out to Sevilla because he didn’t have a place in the team. He flopped at Spain, came back, did a good pre-season, and now is getting constantly injured. Let’s just wait at least until January to make a decision.
