By this point, everyone knows that Erik ten Hag has prioritized the signing of Anthony Matheus from Ajax to reinforce the attack of his team. However, the current Eredivisie champions have turned down this week two proposals from the English club of €80 million and €90m respectively, because they don’t want to sell him.

As a consequence, the young 22-year-old winger has refused to take part in the last training sessions with the rest of his teammates as he has already told his club that he only wants to leave this summer to reunite with his former coach at Ajax in his new adventure in England with Manchester United to keep impulsing his career.

After this, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes was talking to BT Sport before today’s match, where he said that he isn’t surprised about him wanting the move after seeing his manager and Lisandro Martinez do it this summer. He still doesn’t know if he is worth it: He’s got great skills, he’s a player the manager likes, I do feel sorry for him but we’ll see what happens. Is he good enough?”.

The former Manchester United and England midfielder is afraid he won’t have what it takes to leave a mark in the Premier League because he hasn’t scored that many goals in the Eredivisie for a forward player: “The Dutch league is easier than here, we’ve seen that, he’ll be tested properly if he comes over here”, he said to BT Sport.

Trust the process

Even though he is correct in saying that the Eredivisie is inferior to the Premier League, it doesn’t mean he couldn’t make an impact with the United jersey. Erik ten Hag brought Lisandro Martinez with him and he has been the best player in the last two games. If the manager believes in him, the club should sign him.
