Yesterday Manchester United reached an agreement with Juventus on the transfer of Adrien Rabiot for a fee of around £17 million and are currently working on closing personal details with the player and his agent, who actually is his mother. Erik ten Hag wants this deal to go through so bad, that he even called the player and his mother to convince them to sign.

Even though the conversation between both parties was positive, there is still no agreement, as per Romeo Agresti from Goal Italia. Another Italian journalist close to Juventus, Giovanni Albanese, claims that the biggest problem right now is not that Manchester United will not play in the Champions League this season, but another reason.

Gary Neville has asked for the club to be sold right now

According to Giovanni Albanese, from La Gazzetta dello Sport, what’s stopping Rabiot to sign the contract is that he is not willing to reduce his salary as he currently earns €8 million per season. This is considered by the club as an over-the-top salary for the French midfielder, who is one of the best-paid footballers in Serie A.

The ‘Red Devils’ aren’t the only club in the race

Alex Crook from Talk SPORT adds another factor that is getting in the way of the signing. He reported that the French midfielder’s mother is waiting to see what happens in today’s match between PSV Eindhoven and AS Monaco in the UEFA Champions League group stage qualifier because Monaco are also interested in his son. If they end up qualifying for the biggest competition in club football, Manchester United may be in trouble.
