Manchester United spent the last couple of weeks looking for a new backup goalkeeper that could represent competition for David De Gea every single week. It was until the transfer deadline day that they finally got their man in Martin Dúbravka who will play for the Red Devils on loan from Newcastle United this season.

The Slovenian goalkeeper was interviewed by the club’s media about his first impressions after signing with Manchester United. He is grateful to the Magpies, but is already thinking about his new club: “I’d like to sincerely thank everyone at Newcastle United, and especially the fans, for many great experiences over the past four and a half years. My focus is now on helping Manchester United, and we’ll see what the future holds after I have given my all this season. I’m excited to be here”, he told MUTV.

Finally, he admitted that the opportunity to train with other historic goalkeepers was a no-brainer: “I’m joining an excellent group of goalkeepers with lots of experience in the Premier League, and I know that we will push and support each other to keep our standards at the highest levels. The chance to work with David De Gea, alongside Tom Heaton, is one that I’m relishing”.

He also has a lot to contribute

He is an experienced and proven Premier League goalkeeper as well. He has played the last four seasons at Newcastle United, where he has become one of the best players in his position. He has shown ambition after deciding to join Manchester United to compete for a place against someone like David De Gea.
