The UEFA Europa League group stage draw has been celebrated today and Manchester United finally know who are they going to face. The Red Devils were placed in pot one, because of their coefficient ranking based on their performance in the last five seasons. United will be head of Group D alongside Real Sociedad, Sheriff Tiraspol, and Omonia Nicosia.

Real Sociedad will probably be the most difficult matchup Manchester United will face in this group. The Spanish club finished in sixth place in La Liga last season just eight points away from Champions League football. Their manager Imanol Alguacil has formed a very good and has even won the Copa del Rey in May of last year.

Sheriff Tiraspol was one of last season’s most impressive teams in Europe. The Moldavia club was practically unknown to every football fan until they were drawn into the same Champions League group as Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and Shakhtar Donestk. They ended up defeating Madrid in the Santiago Bernabeu and finished third in the group which sent them to Europa League against all odds.

Lastly, Omonia Nicosia isn’t really a team followed outside of their country Cyprus. They just secured their place in the Europa League last night after defeating the Belgium club KAA Gent, who were the favorites in that play-off qualifier. Omonia Nicosia is one of Cyprus biggest teams and have nothing to lose, so they could be tougher than expected.

Man Utd should aim for the tittle

The Europa League group stage will start on Thursday, September 8th, which means Manchester United will face Southampton and Leicester City in the Premier League before kicking off their Europa League campaign, in which they are one of the favorites to win the tournament. The final is scheduled in Budapest on Wednesday 31st of May 2023.
