Yesterday was Carlos Enrique Casemiro’s first training session with his new teammates at Manchester United as he could be making his debut this Saturday against Southampton. The Former Real Madrid midfielder was interviewed for MUTV where he was asked about players from the past that inspired him to become a footballer.

Although he mentioned his former manager at Madrid, he mentioned a United legend: “In terms of idols in this position, my idol was always Zidane, but here at Manchester United, it was always Paul Scholes. He’s a player that was small but he got stuck in, he was a fighter, he gave everything on the pitch. His passing over 50 to 70m was incredible”.

“Carrick was also a great player so I think that Manchester United have always had good players in that position and in midfield. The little guy (referring to Scholes) was very good and what I loved about him when he played was that he was small but he went in hard and fair”.

It makes sense that the 30-year-old midfielder admires so much someone like Scholes so it is very apparent that he likes to play with the same physicality and go hard to every single ball with his tackles. Even though some people see Casemiro as someone who only recovers the ball, he has a good range of passing under his sleeve, kinda like “Scholsey”.

In honor of his idol

Yesterday it was also revealed the shirt number Casemiro will wear as a Red Devil. The Brazilian player will wear the number 18, which is the same iconic number that one of his idols Paul Scholes used to wear. The last player to wear that number was Bruno Fernandes last season, but he has moved on to the number 8 this season, so it was available for Casemiro.
