Manchester United are not done in their search for new players to reinforce the squad in the transfer window, which will close on Thursday, September 1st at 12:00 am. After signing Antony Matheus dos Santos from Ajax, Martin Dúbravka will be soon revealed as the latest signing for the Red Devils to compete with David De Gea in goal.

After some intermediaries attempted to negotiate a swap deal for Sergiño Dest and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, which FC Barcelona immediately turned down since they weren’t interested in the young English right-back, Manchester United have now accelerated talks with the Spanish club for the signing of Dest, as per Ferran Martinez from Mundo Deportivo.

Some of the closest sources from Barcelona like Moises Llorens and Samuel Marsden, both from ESPN, reported that Barca are asking for €20 million in order to sell the full-back. However, due to their desire and desperation to get rid of him, they could be open to the possibility of letting him go on a loan deal with an option to buy.

This was also confirmed by James Ducker from The Telegraph, but he also reported that the English giants are also eying Thomas Meunier from Borussia Dortmund as an alternative in case the signing of the 21-year-old North American isn’t completed. In the meantime, the Red Devils are willing to sell Wan-Bissaka to West Ham or Crystal Palace.

Why is Barcelona trying to get rid of him?

It seems weird that Barca’s manager Xavi Hernandez is so keen to sell Sergiño Dest so desperately. The United States right-back was signed by Barcelona from Ajax in 2020 as a long-term substitute for Dani Alves because of his attacking capabilities. It’s true, that he hasn’t lived up to the hype, but he is still only 21 years old and it wasn’t so long ago when he was considered one of the most promising players in football.
