It is very clear that Manchester United is looking for a new striker before the transfer window comes to a close in the next couple of weeks. This will eventually happen whether Cristiano Ronaldo ends up staying or leaving. Erik ten Hag believes he needs more options on the attack regardless of the Portuguese’s future.

Yesterday it was reported by numerous sources across Europe that the Red Devils have started negotiating with Atlético de Madrid for Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian centre-forward has not been playing as much as he would’ve liked under Diego Simeone and would be open to the idea of leaving. However, Atleti is asking for €50 million.

This has made Manchester United back away a little bit, but they are still very interested in signing him and will try to reduce that initial fee. In spite of this, Rich Fay, who is very close to United’s camp, reported today that MUFC is considering making a late move for Moussa Dembélé as the club still has contact with the player’s agents.

The player was already on the agenda of the 19-times Premier League champions back in March of this year, but the club didn’t capitalize. Now that the board is desperate to look for a new striker, he might end up arriving after losing his place in Olympique Lyon’s starting eleven following the signing of Alexandre Lacazette.

A good alternative

After being loaned out two seasons ago to Atlético de Madrid for six months, the 26-year-old striker returned to the Ligue 1 side and had an outstanding campaign. Last season he scored 22 goals and gave 5 assists in 36 matches played. He is a proven goalscorer, young and a physical striker that would fit Erik ten Hag’s idea of a striker.
