Things seemed to have started well for Erik ten Hag in his new adventure at Manchester United after leaving Ajax in April. He would have a lot of time to talk with the club’s board about some potential signings and changes that needed to be done in the squad in order to get the team back on top where it belongs.

However, things haven’t been quite as everyone would have expected. The Red Devils signed Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord for €15 million so Luke Shaw could have competition at left-back; Christian Eriksen joined for free after six months at Brentford, and finally, Lisandro Martínez was bought for almost €58 million at the end of July.

After these signings, the club apparently stopped looking for new players who could arrive as they believed these transfers were enough to help the team. They just were waiting for Frenkie De Jong to change his mind and decided to join them, but that never happened. It looks like they finally moved on and decided to return to the market after the terrible start of the season.

The Red Devils currently sit at the bottom of the Premier League table after just two games played. Both matches ended up in defeats against Brighton at home, and away at Brentford, where they suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat. Now that Erik ten Hag and the club are desperate due to this worrying situation, they are willing to shake the market.

The new budget

It was reported by Matt Law from The Daily Telegraph that United could spend over £100 million in signings before the transfer window closes on August 31st. Besides the Casemiro deal, they have approached Sergej Milinković-Savić representatives to contemplate the possibility of bringing in the Serbian midfielder.
