Former Manchester United captain has been one of the biggest critics of Manchester United during this year as he is one of the Sky Sports pundits for the Premier League. Even though he has admitted that the arrival of Erik ten Hag is a step forward to the right direction, he worries that the club’s board has not helped him by being slow at closing the signings the new manager asked for.

During yesterday’s Sky Sports Friday Night Football show, Neville sent a warning to Manchester United: “They will look like they’re incredibly smart if they get De Jong in for the money they wanted, or they might look a little bit embarrassed if he goes to Chelsea”.

Neville also thinks the club needs to step up during this last few weeks of the transfer window: “United struggled last season, they need to pick up the baton, but it is even more difficult. It has become even more difficult the fact they have not got the players in as early as ten Hag wanted. He might still get them in the next couple of weeks”.

‘The Red Devils’ will kick off their Premier League season this Sunday at Old Trafford when they face Brighton & Hove Albion in what will be Erik ten Hag’s first competitive game as the club’s new boss. With Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martínez as the only signings yet, the Dutch manager will try to show what he is capable of.
