Liverpool’s midfielder Fabinho talked to The Telegraph yesterday ahead of the Manchester United and Liverpool fixture that will take place today at Old Trafford. Among other topics, the 28-year-old player took the opportunity and talked about some Manchester United players he knows well from Brazil’s national team.

The former Monaco player really rates Casemiro’s signing and believes he will not have any trouble adapting to a new league like the Premier League for his qualities: “He will be a good signing. Casemiro is a smart guy, he is a good player, he is strong, and he is good in the air, so it will not be hard for him to adapt to the Premier League”.

He also took the time to defend Fred from criticism. He believes United fans just choose him as a target for when things go wrong: “In general Man United have not been successful in the last seasons so you try to find a solution or you try to put the fault on some of the players and sometimes I think Fred is that player”.

Fabinho claims Fred is always playing with the Brazil squad, but did admit, that he lacks confidence: “Sometimes I don’t really understand the criticisms with Fred because he is a good player, in the national team he is always a starter, he always plays good and, yes, sometimes the player needs a little bit more of confidence to play good”.

Fabinho knows them

It is true that when Fred goes away to play for his national team, he always performs better than when he is wearing the Manchester United jersey, but it is because he plays alongside Casemiro or Fabinho. At Old Trafford, he plays with McTominay. Now, with Casemiro’s signing, perhaps Fred could be performing in his best form every week.
