To think that at some point Erling Haaland could have been part of the Red Devils is hard to believe, as the Manchester City player has had a career full of goals, only in the time he has been playing with the citizens he has scored 12 goals in 7 games. Man Utd did not understand the situation with this player who showed his talent at a young age.
According to a conversation published in The Athletic, where former Molde chief scout John Vik revealed how close Erling came to landing at Old Trafford a couple of years ago. The unfulfilled interest lasted practically two years, something was not convincing them about the 22-year-old Norwegian.

He recalled the day he saw Haaland for the first time and that he was a player who quickly became a benchmark for the youngsters in the team. At that time he went to talk to the then coach of the team, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, where he told him to contact Manchester United, as they were looking for a very special young striker.
Solskjaer repeatedly tried to bring the Norwegian into the Manchester United squad. He even flew to Manchester to convince the team that he was such a good player that it would not be long before a major European team would be interested in him. For almost two years, the Man Utd management was tried to convince him before he arrived at Borussia Dortmund.
Although Nick Butt (then head of Man Utd's academy) was a friend of Ole and Vik, they failed to convince the opportunity to bring in Erling. The player who is now in Pep Guardiola's squad will be ready to face the Red Devils at Etihad Stadium, the first Manchester derby on 2 October for Haaland.
