Manchester United defeated Liverpool 2-1 with an outstanding performance of all the players at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag finally got his first win as the Red Devils’ manager and hopefully, this was only a taste of what is coming in the next couple of years under him. The Dutchman talked to Sky Sports after the final whistle and shared his first impressions of the game.

Ten Hag highlighted the importance of the attitude once again: “We have to be a team, in good spirits and that is what we saw today. I told them we have to act, not talk a lot. We have to battle, be brave. We can talk about tactics but it is all about attitude. There was communication, fighting spirit and then you can see what they can achieve”.

“Of course we are happy. I know the rivalry against Liverpool, don’t just bring it against Liverpool, bring this organization and intensity in every game. Tactically, you see where you can have weapons in the game. You see we have speed, and Fernandes and Eriksen have a pass. McTominay had a magnificent game”, he told Sky Sports.

When asked about the players who were dropped, he didn’t want to talk about it, and also opened up to the possibility of signing more players in the next couple of weeks: “I don’t have to mention Harry Maguire and Ronaldo, they will play a role in the future. We said we want to bring the right players in, the window is not closed and you see you need not only numbers but quality”.

A much-needed result

Erik ten Hag certainly didn’t start his Manchester United career as he would have expected after losing his first two Premier League fixtures in charge of the team. However, defeating our biggest rivals in such a great fashion could definitely be the stepping stone he and his players needed to change the course of the season. If you add Casemiro and a couple more signings, United could be a title contender.
