Manchester United has had a rough patch throughout this last decade, but this last year is probably one of the worst in the club’s long history. With a team full of great players on paper, they never could work as a unit and ended up failing to qualify for this season’s UEFA Champions League and will play the Europa League.

For this reason, Cristiano Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes have been looking for a new club that will participate in the club’s biggest competition in the world since his current club won’t. The 37-year-old striker wants to keep playing in that tournament so he can extend his goalscoring record and prove he is still the best in the world.

The Portugal captain missed out on almost all of the Manchester United pre-season tour with Erik ten Hag as he asked the club for permission since he was having “family issues”. However, everybody knew he was trying to find a new destination for his career. He finally came back two weeks before the new campaign started.

He only played 45 minutes under the new manager in the last pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano and started the season sitting on the bench against Brighton & Hove Albion, which ended up in a defeat. A week later, he started against Brentford in the humiliating 4-0 defeat last Saturday and he was caught by the cameras looking frustrated and helpless.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s message

The Portuguese star went on his Instagram account and said that he will be giving an interview in a few weeks to explain his situation: “They know the truth when they interview in a couple of weeks. The media is telling lies. I have a notebook and in the last few months of the 100 news I made, only 5 were right. Imagine how it is. Stick with that tip”.
