One of the biggest news portals in the UK, The Athletic, has reported that there has been an increase in expectations at Manchester United in that Cristiano Ronaldo will be accepting to stay at the club and play in the UEFA Europa League for the first time in his legendary career, which wasn’t something he really wanted at first.

The Athletic also adds that some people at the Carrington training center have detected a positive change in the Portuguese man's attitude in the last couple of days. A few weeks ago it was reported that Erik ten Hag wasn’t a fan of Ronaldo’s attitude during the games and on the training ground, but this could be the turning point.

The new manager was reportedly willing to let Cristiano go if he and his agent Jorge Mendes finally found a club interested in him, but that never happened. The former Ajax boss showed his great character after not being afraid of benching the 37-year-old striker in three games out of the four that have been played this season.

In order to get his point through, Erik ten Hag proved to Ronaldo that if he didn’t change his attitude or gave a definitive answer regarding his future, he wouldn't have any problem whatsoever in playing Anthony Elanga and Anthony Martial over him in big matches like the one against our fiercest rivals Liverpool last week, where CR7 was subbed-in at the 86th minute.

A new start

If the information reported by The Athletic is true, then maybe this could be the turning point in the relationship between Erik ten Hag and Cristiano Ronaldo. Once the Portugal captain confirms that he will be 100% staying at Manchester United, the Dutch manager will truly start counting on him as a possible starter in the centre-forward position.
