Manchester United is having a tough start into the new season after losing the first two games of the Premier League campaign against Brighton at home, and away at Brentford. Today, Bruno Fernandes talked to Portugal’s Diário Record where he talked about how the squad is dealing with this worrying situation.

He admitted the team still struggles with the lack of confidence after last season: “It has been a difficult start. Nobody is prepared to start like that at Manchester United. With Brighton, when we suffered the goal, we felt that mistrust that came from last year. It is mainly confidence. That is what we have to recover”.

Bruno was asked about a supposed bad environment in the dressing room, to which he said: “It is a sad locker room, a bit dejected by the results. Expectations were high after the pre-season we had, but there is no problem in the dressing room, quite the opposite. The locker room knows it’s not at the level it needs to be. I need to look in the mirror and do better than I’ve been doing”.

The Portuguese man also remembered the comments of Gabriel Agbonlahor saying he looks like the worst teammate: “It’s honestly not something that worries me too much. He’s never played with me, he doesn’t know how I am”. He even said that just two days ago, Juan Mata told him he was the best person he’s met and encouraged him to continue like that.

An important player in the squad

Bruno Fernandes was signed by Manchester United in January 2020 for €63 million and has quickly become one of the best players on the team. As a midfielder, he has scored 50 goals and handed out 39 assists in 128 games played with the Red Devils shirt. Unfortunately, this past year he hasn’t been at the level he proved already he can be.
