Aubameyang would prefer signing for Chelsea rather than Manchester United

A few days ago it was reported that Manchester United were interested in hijacking the transfer of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Chelsea before the transfer window closed since the manager needed a new striker after Anthony Martial got injured once again, and the uncertainty regarding Cristiano Ronaldo and his future.

Today, the Italian reporter and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, confirmed that United made an approach to FC Barcelona asking about Aubameyang. However, the player’s preference is to join Chelsea this summer over the Red Devils. He already knows Thomas Tuchel as a coach, and they will play in the Champions League this season.

Although the 33-year-old striker was never a priority for Erik ten Hag, he was considered an option for the final days of the window in case the club hadn’t signed any of the main targets in the attacking department, which still hasn’t happened yet. Barca is currently asking for €30 million and neither Chelsea nor United are willing to pay that fee.

Nevertheless, Erik ten Hag is still optimistic that the transfer will go through.

The other alternative

Some reports suggest that if Manchester United had to choose an alternative for Antony, it would be another Barcelona forward. Some close sources from Barca reveal that the Red Devils have made contact asking for Memphis Depay, who is also on his way out of the Camp Nou. The 28-year-old forward is younger and cheaper than Aubameyang.
