Last week it was reported that Manchester United and Watford had reached an agreement for the season-long loan deal for the Red Devils’ right-back Ethan Laird. It was just a matter of time for the deal to be closed, but it started to cool off because the Championship side was not moving for the player anymore.

United was frustrated by not knowing why Watford stopped the deal to come through, but they finally understood after The Hornets signed Mario Gaspar. The 31-year-old Spanish right-back did not renew his contract with Villarreal and was a free agent this summer. It looks like their manager chose Gaspar over Laird because of his experience.

Today, Mike McGrath from ‘The Daily Telegraph’ reported that Queens Park Rangers were in advanced negotiations with Manchester United for a loan deal for Laird. Hours later, Fabrizio Romano confirmed the report. He added that the Watford deal collapsed last week, but now both clubs are closing the loan.

No space for him in the team?

A lot of Manchester United fans have complained on social media because they feel he could stay and be the backup option for Diogo Dalot. The fans believe the one who should leave this summer is Aaron Wan-Bissaka, not a young promising player like Ethan Laird who is hungry for minutes and already knows the club.
