Last night a new legend of English football was born on the international, Manchester United's Rooney Wayne saw his legacy as England's top scorer of all time take a backseat since his retirement for a new owner, in their last international games.
England beat Italy 2-1 in Naples, securing their first victory over the Azzurri since 2012. Harry Kane scored England's winning goal in the first half from the penalty spot to break Wayne Rooney's record of 53 all-time goals for the Three Lions during his football career.
Kane's winning goal took him to 54 international goals for the England national teams at age 29. His efforts made him a worthy England legend just weeks after also becoming Tottenham Hotspur's all-time goalscorer this season despite their club struggles.
Wayne Rooney has reacted to Harry Kane breaking his record via Twitter. He tweeted 'congratulations to Harry Kane on becoming England's all-time leading goalscorer.' He also teased Kane about his speed at reaching the milestone as Manchester United continues to explore a move for the England striker.
Harry Kane has been on Manchester United's radar for quite a few seasons and almost made a switch to Manchester City prior to Erling Haaland's arrival. Tottenham's poor form and ongoing fallout with their manager have opened more opportunities for Manchester United and Erik Ten Hag to leverage in their plans to sign the England striker and form a great attacking duo with Marcus Rashford.
