Ever since Erik ten Hag arrived at Manchester United, one of his priorities was to get rid of the dead wood in the dressing room. He wanted young players to leave on loan, and some senior players out for good as they wouldn’t play regularly with him.

One of those players was Juan Mata. The 34-year-old midfielder’s career was in a downward spiral for quite some time as he didn’t play too much at the club and had lost his place as a regular starter in the squad with different managers, but for some reason, he kept getting renewed.

But that was until the Dutch manager set foot at Old Trafford this summer. He told the club that the Spanish footballer wasn’t in his plans for this season or the future, so he asked the board of directors not to offer him a contract extension as his contract was expiring this summer.

Now as a free agent, he spent the most recent transfer window trying to find a new club in the biggest leagues in Europe, however, he didn’t find any interested in him. Some say he was close to joining Leeds United, but that has been confirmed to be false.

Where is he going?

Juan Mata will be playing for Galatasaray in the Turkish league. He will join other surprising summer signings they did like Mauro Icardi, Dries Mertens, Lucas Torreira, and Sergio Oliveira. This team is looking scary and should definitely be winning their league this year.
