Former Manchester United player and club legend turn-pundit, Paul Scholes took a dig at Cristiano Ronaldo while giving a post-match analysis of Manchester United's win at Old Trafford last night. The Red Devils were victorious against their Spanish visitors.
Old Trafford welcomed two European giant clubs, Manchester United and Barcelona, that have fallen down the pecking over for various reasons in recent years. The Europa League draw saw they meet for the first time since 2019 and the first leg ended 2-2 at Old Trafford with all to play for last night.
Manchester United came out on top after they put in their best performance in the second half and sent their visitors out of the Europa League competition. Robert Lewandoski's penalty kick go was canceled out by Fred in the second half before Antony gave United the lead and eventual win with United's second goal of the night.
Erik Ten Hag like the United fans and club legends was very delighted at the end of the game as they beat one of their fiercest rivals to move to the next round. This was Manchester United's first victory over Barcelona since their 1-0 win in 2008 at Old Trafford as well.
Speaking after the game, Paul Scholes attributed Bruno Fernandes's role in the team to what Wayne Rooney did while playing with Ronaldo during their days at the club. Scholes said, 'sacrifices is what it's all about. Wayne Rooney did it so many times for Cristiano Ronaldo'. Scholes believes that Bruno is pivotal to Manchester United's success.
