The former Manchester United stars might not be best friends anymore but their record actually is.

Over the last few years, one of football's iconic duo's relationships has gotten sour with the war of words between both players about their recent decisions surrounding the sport. Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney were an inseparable footballing duo under Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United.

In the last few months, their close friend relationship hit a snag following Rooney's criticism of Ronaldo's second spell at Manchester United which ended in a fallout and exit from the club. While Ronaldo still continues to play after joining Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, Rooney turned to a football coach.

The Manchester United all-time topscorer currently manages DC United in MLS in the USA after his switch from managing Derby County last year following their relegation from Championship last season with a heavy point deduction to their league standing.

Though Ronaldo and Rooney haven't been seen together in while, the last time they met on the outcome was in the United during a summer tour between Real Madrid and Manchester United in Michigan in 2014, which saw a record 109,318 fans show up to watch the game. It still remains an all-time record attendance for any football match in the US.

Can the former Manchester United stars ever reconcile?

At the moment, both former players look to be focused on their dreams. Cristiano Ronaldo recently got his first call-up after the World Cup under a new head coach. He said 'I want to be part of Portugal for as long as they count on me. I do want to become the player with the most international caps.' Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney was recently announced to be the manager of the All-Star team that will be facing Arsenal in the USA summer tour.
