It’s no secret that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United to play Champions League football and have the opportunity to extend his lead as the top goal scorer of the competition, in which he has 140 goals. Lionel Messi follows him with 125 goals, so the Portuguese star doesn’t want that gap to close.

This desire to leave was clearly shown by Ronaldo after missing almost one month of preseason with his club, now led by Erik Ten Hag. The former Real Madrid player was offered to big clubs this summer by his agent Jorge Mendes, but no offers were made as he still has one more year in his contract with the ‘Red Devils’.

CR7 came back from his holidays on July 26th with his agent to discuss his situation with the club after weeks of absence for “family reasons”. After just one week of training with his teammates, he finally was selected by Ten Hag to play a friendly match against Spanish side Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford this past Sunday.

The 37-year-old forward started the game but seemed off as he struggled to help his team create chances of scoring. During a cooler break, Ten Hag was giving out instructions to his players, when he and Ronaldo were clearly having a discussion. As the first half finished, the Dutch manager subbed off Cristiano Ronaldo at half time. After this CR7 left the stadium as the game was still being played.

The new destination for Cristiano Ronaldo

Spanish journalist Manu Sainz claims that the two options Cristiano Ronaldo has right now to leave are Atlético de Madrid and Napoli, despite Atleti’s president, Enrique Cerezo, denying interest. On the other hand, the Italian club have reduced their wage rate with the exits of Koulibaly, Insigne and Mertens, so Ronaldo may be an option to be Napoli’s new idol.
