Manchester United are already gearing up for the start of pre-season, as more groups of players have gathered at Carrington as part of the team's training camp before travelling to Norway to face Leeds, yet Erik Ten Hag will have to make a decision in the next few weeks that will change the course of the season.

As we already know the Premier League starts on August 12 for Manchester United and the club still has many decisions to make, about the new signings that could arrive, what will happen with the sale of the club, the players that would have to be sold and a topic that has come up these days that would be about the new captain of the red devils.

Harry Maguire was captain for a while last season, until Erik Ten Hag decided to reduce his playing time at Old Trafford and take the captaincy away from him and give it to Bruno Fernandes; now with the defender's departure imminent as he no longer has a place at the club, the manager's decision could be made very soon.

Many reports indicate that the most obvious and sensible decision for Ten Hag would be to reaffirm the Portuguese midfielder as the captain for the 23/24 season, due to his great leadership on and off the pitch, Bruno Fernandes deserves the privilege of wearing the captain's armband; however, there is another option that the manager may be thinking of as an alternative.

Casemiro as United's new captain

The Brazilian midfielder, having just completed his first season with the Red Devils, now in his second season at Old Trafford, would be expected to step up as one of the team's leaders, his winning mentality, experience and level of play could lead Erik Ten Hag to consider him as one of the alternatives for the captaincy, to be announced before the start of the Premier League.
