Manchester United enjoyed a great era during Sir Alex Ferguson's tenure, the club not only dominated England, but was one of the most feared rivals in Europe; no doubt all United fans enjoyed those glorious victories that put us at the top of world football.
However now is a different era, the Red Devils have gone through a very important drought, as the last Premier League title was in the 13/14 season, in fact in Ferguson's last season in charge of the team and if we talk about the Champions League we have to go back to 2008 which was won against Chelsea with a great performance by a young Cristiano Ronaldo; since then the club has gone downhill, going through several managers who have been unable to win titles and players who have failed with the club.
Now with Erik Ten Hag as the new manager of the Red Devils since last year, the fans and the team have regained the illusion that they can compete at the highest level again; for in his first season with the club, the Dutch manager was able to right the ship towards the end of the campaign leaving United in third place and with direct passage to the Champions League.
Consequently, expectations are high for the new season, the signings the manager has brought in may help the team improve and fill the gaps in the squad, however, there would be something that Ten Hag would be implementing at United that could make his time with the club a success.
Sir Alex Ferguson was a very prolific manager during his time at Manchester United, this was thanks to the trust that the management and players gave him, even so, he applied a philosophy at the club that Erik Ten Hag is now willing to implement; Ferguson reportedly told Ten Hag that: "Discipline is vital. If you lose discipline, you can lose any chance of success, you can't lose control". This could certainly help the Dutch manager to get United back to the top.
