The sale of Manchester United has taken much longer than originally expected, as it has been seven months since the Glazer family announced they would be looking to sell the team. The final race has been narrowed down to just two candidates and the most recent information suggests that Sheikh Jassim Al Thani could be in the lead while Sir Jim Ratcliffe is seeing his chances disappear before his eyes.

The English tycoon, who currently owns Ligue 1 club Nice, wants to expand his power by acquiring Manchester United, and his strategy to achieve this would be to allow the Glazer brothers to remain minority owners of the team, so Ratcliffe's financial offer would not have been as high as that of his counterpart.

For his part, Sheikh Jassim put on the table an offer of 6.5 billion euros to buy 100% of the team, an offer that seems too good to be true and that would have at least four of the Glazer brothers on his side to define the new owner of the team. In addition, Sheikh Jassim has promised that if he becomes the new owner, he will eliminate the team's debt and provide a billion-dollar budget to sign the best players in the world.

In that sentidom Sir Jim Ratcliffe knows that it would be impossible for him to compete with the great economic power of the Qatari royal family, as it has even been reported that the tycoon would have used bank loans to finance his bid to acquire Manchester United.

Sheikh Jassim is the favorite

Although it has been days since the last information about the sale of the club was released, it is believed that there is a lot of activity behind the silence, as the Glazer family has reportedly told the lawyers of both contenders to have everything ready in case they are chosen. However, sources claim that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has "lost confidence" in the Glazers' delay in making a decision and now believes his chances are slim.
